This list of “Afrikanerisms” comprises slang words and phrases influenced by Afrikaans and other African languages. Typical users include people with Afrikaans as their first language but who speak English as a second language; and people living in areas where the population speaks both English and Afrikaans.

The Project Scope: For this concept project I wanted to freshen up my skills in typography design. The idea I had was to create postcards that pay homage to Cape Culture slang. Cape Town is always buzzing with tourists looking for and wanting to experience local adventures and what better way to feel like a local by speaking like one. By keeping the look of the traditional postcard format, I swapped out the tradition “wish you were here” copy that is commonly found on post cards with slang words that they could use.
